If you’ve ever been watching Disney+ and yearned for a snack, a souvenir, or even to purchase something you’ve seen on one of the streaming service’s shows? Well, you’re about to be in luck…

As reported by Variety, Disney is planning to introduce “virtual storefronts” to its popular streaming services, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. These storefronts will allow viewers to order snacks or pick out products they’ve seen in their favorite shows, all while continuing to stream their movie or show. Disney+ subscribers will see interactive ads pop up as well. Here’s what we know.
For the merchandise storefronts, Disney is teaming with ShopSense to offer “fashions, products, and offers” tied to the specific series, movies, or sports viewers are watching. Examples could potentially include everything from Star Wars memorabilia while watching Andor to the NBA jerseys of whichever teams are playing during a live-streamed game.

Disney is also teaming up with Gopuff, a digital delivery service, to offer a “virtual concession stand” that will allow subscribers to order snacks, drinks, and candy while streaming.

Disney Senior Vice President of Addressable Sales Jamie Power said of the deal, “I’m excited to see streaming ads finally being optimized for streaming, rather than just replicating the linear experience. Advertisers are recognizing the shift. By connecting retail media signals to our content, we’re helping brands create more personal, actionable and measurable experiences — enabling shoppable storytelling and delivering solutions that truly move the needle.”
Disney is following in the footsteps of Paramount and NBCUniversal, both of whom have tried similar programming tied to events like the MTV Video Music Awards and the Parisian Olympic Games.

Soon, you’ll be able to order everything from fashion to food items directly through Disney+ while streaming. We’re waiting on an exact launch date, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as the project moves forward.
